Flooding

So yesterday it started raining at our house at about 4:50 pm and less than an hour later the street in front of our house was flooded and the bayou was growing. It stopped raining, we went to Empty Nesters FHE, came home and went to bed. Well, we woke up this morning, at 2:30am, to a very loud thunderstorm. When the driving rain continued we decided to come downstairs to check things out. The septic system alarm was going off - first clue that the yard is flooded!! As we watched the water rise we made the decision to move our vehicles to higher ground. We took the dogs with us so they could doo what dogs doo in the yard when it's not covered in water. We had to navigate through calf deep water to get to the cars and knee deep water to walk back to the house. They say we had between 6" and 8" of rain this morning! Well, we're safely back in our home. The water is slowly receding and Dan & I hope to be on our way to work by lunch time! That's our latest adventure!!
Hope all is well with all of you!

Ethan's Walk

I participated in a walk, this past Friday night, in memory of a young boy (6), from our church. Ethan died of cancer last November. The walk was emotional but it was good. I was supposed to walk (officially) at 11:30 pm and 12:30 am (it was an all night walk) but around 11:20pm it started pouring rain. After the lightning started crashing close by they asked us to close down. It was a scramble to get things cleaned up but I was so glad I was able to be there.

Ransom's 12th Birthday

Saturday (4/18) was Ransom's 12th birthday!! We went to CiCi's Pizza for lunch and then he opened his gifts at Grandma's before we came to our house and had banana splits after a movie. We had crazy amounts of rain so the boys look a little damp in a few of the pictures.
Then today, we went to Grandma's for dinner and cake. We celebrated Jeff's birthday too. Ransom's requested cake was cookie dough - so Grandma made him his "personal cake" which was really just a big glob of chocolate chip cookie dough without the chocolate chips - crazy kid!!
Also, Ransom was ordained a Deacon today at church - so we are now a family of 2 Deacons!! We are so proud of them!

Easter Weekend 2009

Saturday started out with Donny, Ryan & Ransom dyeing eggs - I believe they were done with approx. 2 dozen in under 10 minutes - not quite the fun it was in younger years - I guess they're growing up. Then, at the request of the boys, (maybe they're not as grown up as they think they are) we had an Easter Egg hunt combined with a treasure hunt. It was quite comical to see them running around and they seemed to have a good time!
Sunday we went to church then to Dan's family's house for Easter lunch/dinner - the food was scrumptious and the company superb!! It was so nice to sit and visit with everyone! I think my fondest memory will be Dan's mother and aunt playing kickball with the great-grandkids (Hunter - 10 & Cody - 4). What fun & great memories for Hunter & Cody!!
In the evening we dropped in at my parent's house just to say Happy Easter. We took a picture of Cait with Denise's new puppy, Jock! Just a couple of cuties!!
We had a very nice Easter and we hope all of you did too!!
Until the next post - take care and love to all!

Our Florida Trip - Days 1 thru 3 - Traveling & Visiting the Majors!

Ryan, Ransom and I left on Monday, March 16th and spent a couple of days with our friends the Majors - Ma & Pa, thank you for making our time in Florida so NICE!! The beach, the pool, riding in the convertible, real live manatees - how can you beat that!!
Then it was off to meet Aunt Jenni and go to Disney!!
I've made several posts to make it easier to look at but I still need to warn you that it's quite a few pictures!!
(you'll have to click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of the page to see the rest of the Disney pictures and a few pictures of Grandma's and AJ's birthdays)

Traveling & Visiting the Majors!

Late Day 3 - Airport & Day 4 - Hollywood Studio Park

So, once we were done visiting the Major's we headed for the airport to await Jenni's arrival. I made a wrong turn so we saw some of Florida we hadn't expected and only ended up being 6 minutes late getting the rental car back!! But because of the wrong turn we didn't have time to stop for dinner, so we ate the snacks we had.
After we found Jenni, we headed to Disney - upon arriving between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. we found out they had given our room away!! After some talk & tears (not mine for a change), they put us up at the All Star Music hotel (we were booked at All Star Movies) which turned out fine... once we had some sleep!
Our first day at Disney we went to the Hollywood Studio Park. It was very crowded and the 2 big rides had 3+ hour waits - we didn't ride those! But the Indiana Jones show was very good!
We stopped at the All Star Sports hotel on the way back from the park just to see what BIG decorations they had!

Waiting for Aunt Jenni @ the Airport & Hollywood Studio

Day 5 - Epcot & Day 6 - Animal Kingdom

Day 5 was the day my baby toes turned into blisters - not just blisters on my toes - the whole toe was a blister - weird!! Epcot has some fun rides - Test Track (3 or 4 times), Soarin' (only once because of the lines) and several others but you have to walk a long way between rides - hence the blisters.
Day 6 started out with Mickey head-shaped rice krispie treats for breakfast as we stood in line for the bus. Note the tired faces. But we had a good time there too. The river rafting ride was fun (2 times for all of us, 6 for the boys). Then there was the Everest Roller Coaster - way too scary for me but the others rode it(Jenni and Ransom rode 3 times!).
And the best part of the day was my life long friend, Lori Major, with her daughter, Sara (& Sara's friend) meeting us at the Rainforest Cafe for lunch - it was great to see them and have a short visit! Thanks for coming to see us!!

Epcot & Animal Kingdom

Day 7 - Magic Kingdom & Day 8 - Homeward Bound

We saved the Magic Kingdom till last because when you stay at a Disney Resort, they have certain nights you can stay past closing for 3 hours - it's suppose to give you extra time with fewer people in the park. This night they stayed open till 2:00 am. I think we made it till 12:30?
There's a few pictures with the castle because this was 1 of Brian's caches.
Ryan is eating the caramel apple before we leave to get on the plane. The shirts the boys are wearing are from the scariest ride they rode - Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest - they tell me it went backward at one point. Needless to say I didn't ride it!
I'm pretty sure we were all ready to be home by day 8 (maybe sooner for some of us). Disney is fun but it sure can wear you out!!
